Alkar / Duga
The story Alkar tells the story of the life of a young man named Salko Pavlović in the Dalmatian hinterland. Salko was raised by a wealthy and respected Alkar Rašica, who wanted his stepson to become a brave and respected competitor in the Sinj Alka.
Salko is a quiet, sensitive and reserved young man who is different from other Alkars. He is in love with Marta, a girl from a poor background, but their love is made difficult by social differences and the expectations of his environment. Rašica wants Salko to become a true Alkar and gain a reputation, while Salko has difficulty fitting into the strict rules of the patriarchal environment. The climax of the story occurs during the Alkar competition. Salko shows courage and ability and wins the respect of the people. In doing so, he proves his worth and matures as a person.
