Špijunska baza Tokio

Špijunska baza Tokio

Martin Cruz-Smith

Days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Harry Niles attempts to escape Tokyo. In a whirlwind of espionage, deceit, and threats of war, he must decide who he can trust.

Tokyo Spy Base is a novel by American writer Martin Cruz Smith that combines historical fiction, spy thriller and suspenseful adventure. The story is set in Tokyo just before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, at a time when the world is on the brink of a major war.

The main character Harry Niles is the son of American missionaries, but he grew up in Japan and is between two cultures all his life. As the owner of the Happy Paris nightclub, he moves among diplomats, soldiers, criminals and spies, while at the same time trying to avoid the ever-approaching conflict. When he realizes that war is inevitable, he decides to leave Japan, but he soon finds himself in a web of political intrigue, secret plans and dangerous enemies.

The novel faithfully evokes the atmosphere of pre-war Tokyo, showing the complex relations between Japan and the West and the life of foreigners in a closed and suspicious society. The author skilfully combines real historical events with a tense fictional story, creating a convincing account of a time marked by uncertainty and fear of war.

Tokyo Spy Base is an attractive read for fans of historical novels and spy thrillers, and especially for readers interested in Japan on the eve of World War II.
