Drugo ime za ljubav

Colleen Mccullough

Another Name for Love is a novel about the love that arises between a military nurse and a patient in a psychiatric ward during World War II, despite numerous obstacles.

Another Name for Love is a novel by Australian author Colleen McCullough set towards the end of World War II on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. The story takes place in a military hospital, in a ward for mentally ill soldiers, where war traumas, emotional crises and complex interpersonal relationships intertwine. The novel combines elements of a love story, psychological drama and war novel.

At the center of the story is nurse Honor Langtry, a capable and dedicated woman who hides her own emotional wounds behind a professional exterior. During her work, she meets Sergeant Michael Wilson, an intelligent and attractive patient who is recovering from the psychological consequences of war. A strong attachment gradually develops between them, which grows into love, although the circumstances of their meeting and the rules of military service make such a relationship very complex.

The author pays special attention to the psychological development of the characters. Through their conversations, memories, and internal conflicts, she depicts the effects of war on the human psyche and the need for closeness, understanding, and acceptance. The love story unfolds in an atmosphere of uncertainty, while the past and personal secrets constantly influence the present.

McCullough convincingly shows how war leaves not only physical but also deep psychological scars. Thanks to the strong characterization of the characters, emotional depth, and tense plot, Another Name for Love is considered one of the author's most successful novels, along with her famous bestseller Birds Die Singing.
