Zapisci Malte Laurids Briggea
This unconventional novel is actually an intimate diary of the main character, a Danish poet who lives in Paris, and seems to be a collection of his mental states, introspections and impressions, primarily recording the artist's loneliness, painful memories, experience of transience, knowledge of the misery of the world that is hidden behind the visible flashes and thoughts of suffering and disintegration... With this work, Rilke directs himself towards the prose of introspection and stream of consciousness, tendencies that largely characterized the literary creativity of the 20th century.
