Smrtonosni strojevi

Philip Reeve

This exciting SF story begins when the big moving city of London hunts a small mining town.

When one city swallows another, it processes all useful materials to release energy to run the motorized wheels that allow the city to travel. However, London's mayor has much bigger plans than conquering small towns.

Several young people will band together to prevent disaster, among them Tom, a scholar at the London History Museum who admires the researcher and head historian at the city's Historians' Guild, Thaddeus Valentine. After a young woman tries to kill him, Katherine, the historian's daughter, hires Beavis Pod, a scientist from the engineers' guild, in order to find out the truth about her father and his activities. Working together, they will uncover a secret conspiracy by Thaddeus Valentine and the Mayor of London who are secretly planning to use the weapon that destroyed the Earth millions of years ago. Philip Reeve is a famous British illustrator and writer. He also produced and directed several theater plays. "Mortal Engines" is the first novel in his "The Hungry City Chronicles" series, after which he wrote "Predator's Gold", its second part.
