Determining and evaluating the global and key historical determinants of today's world have been one of the main trends in the world science of history for decades. Eric J. HOBSBAWM, retired professor of the University of London and long-time member of the prestigious King's College in Cambridge, honorary doctorate of several universities and honorary member of several academies belongs to the researchers who have devoted most of their scientific efforts to this and achieved results of high international value. In his works, which have been translated from English into other world languages, he mainly deals with social history from the end of the 18th century to 1914, especially the social development of Great Britain, the builder of the largest empire in the history of the world.

His book The Age of Revolution, first published in 1962, has seen several English and other editions and today belongs to the circle of classic works about the great, fateful changes that took place from the last decades of the 18th century to 1848 on the soil of Great Britain and France . Hobsbawm, an author of very broad interest and understanding, is not only interested in the events and processes in those two countries, but also in their all-round radiation, the huge range of external actions caused in various parts of the world by the British industrial revolution and the French political-social revolution.
