Korak dalje putem kojim rjeđe se ide
You may remember that The Road Less Traveled began with the sentence: "Life is hard." I will now add another one to that great truth: Life is complicated.
Each of us must pave our own path through life. There are no self-help instruction manuals, no formulas, no simple answers. The path that is right for one person is completely wrong for another. Nowhere in this book will I tell you: "Go this way", or "Turn left there". The path of life is not paved, it is not well lit and there are no road signs. Life's path is a rocky path through the wilderness.
In this book, I will try to write down some of the things that I have learned over the past ten years, which have made my way easier as I wandered through the said wilderness. But if I tell you that whenever I got lost, I found my way again by following the moss that grows on the north side of the tree, I must also warn you that in redwood forests, the moss on many trees grows on all four sides of the world.
I also warn you not to take the "one step further" in the title - or anything else in this book - as an assertion that the path is linear and that we move along it in a straight line and step by step. The road is not like that. It's more like a series of concentric circles that spread outward, and nothing about that path is either simple or straight.
But we don't have to travel alone. We can ask for help from a force that we recognize as something greater than ourselves.
I hope that you will give up the desire to simplify everything, from the search for formulas and quick solutions, appreciate the mysteries and paradoxes of life and not be discouraged by the many causes and effects, which are integral parts of every experience - that is, you will appreciate the fact that life is complicated.
