Lilli Palmer

All Because of Lilli Palmer's Long Nose is a novel about two women whose fates are unexpectedly intertwined after cosmetic nose surgery. A seemingly insignificant procedure sets in motion a series of events that change their lives.

All Because of a Long Nose is a novel by German actress and writer Lilli Palmer. Palmer gained international fame as a film and stage actress, appearing in German, British and American films, and she often used her experiences from the world of art and high society in her literary works.

The main characters of the novel are Ruth Czerny, a young masseuse dissatisfied with her appearance, and Lotta Hallsteiner, the wife of a prominent publisher who seemingly has everything she could wish for. Their meeting takes place in a plastic surgery clinic, where they both go for a nose job. This seemingly insignificant procedure becomes the beginning of changes that will affect their private and social lives.

After the surgery, Ruth gains confidence and begins to move in circles that were previously inaccessible to her. At the same time, she discovers that physical change does not automatically solve her emotional and life problems. Lotta, on the other hand, hides marital and personal crises behind the appearance of a successful life that money and social status cannot eliminate.

Through their destinies, Palmer shows how appearance can affect social relationships, but also how important character, self-confidence and personal choices are. The novel is a light but insightful social prose that deals with the themes of identity, women's position, love and the pursuit of happiness.
