Porijeklo perspektive

Hubert Damisch

The author deals with questioning the perspective. From the usual consideration of perspective as an optical and symbolic problem, it enters a wider interdisciplinary intellectual structure typical of the contemporary approach to cultural problems.

Building on the tradition of considering perspective as an optical and symbolic problem in the history of recent European painting, Hubert Damisch in The Origin of Perspective analyzes both Renaissance theories and recent historical art methods, creating a distinctive interdisciplinary postulated intellectual complex - a mosaic of knowledge and questions typical of a contemporary approach to cultural problems. In particular, it should be noted that the author devotes many pages to the so-called Urbino perspectives, three paintings traditionally attributed to Lucian Vranjanin. For this reason, as well as for the epistemological scope of contemporary scientific methodology and terminology, this book - one of the most read manuals of recent art history - deserves special attention from the Croatian cultural community.
