Tuga

Tuga

Anton Pavlovič Čehov

In the short story Grief, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov confronts the reader with a great universal problem of humanity - internal communication, lack of interest in someone's loss and grief.

The title, Sadness sums up the mood of the story. The title refers to the immense grief of coachman Jona Potapov over the loss of his son and his futile, desperate attempts to share it with his companions in his sleigh. The story takes place almost a week after the death of Jonah's son and focuses on the psychological consequences of this event, which breaks Jonah's daily life routine. His grief is unspeakable and is painted through many small details.
