Crvene senke na putu za Oregon

Crvene senke na putu za Oregon

Daniel Wyatt

Wyatt Daniel's popular pulp novel from 1969 brings an exciting western story about danger, conflict and survival in the wild American West.

The Western novel Red Shadows on the Road to Oregon by Wyatt Daniel (a pseudonym used for works of popular pulp fiction), published in 1969 by the Sarajevo-based house "Džepna knjiga," is a typical example of the immensely popular pulp Western genre that defined mass culture and publishing in the former Yugoslavia during the second half of the 20th century. Set during the era of westward expansion in America, the novel follows a wagon train of settlers and adventurers making their way along perilous trails toward Oregon. The "red shadows" of the title allude to the constant threat of conflict with indigenous tribes, as well as to the lawlessness, renegades, bandits, and harsh wilderness the protagonists must confront on their long and uncertain journey. Written in a dynamic style emphasizing action, duels, suspense, and rapid plot resolution, this booklet was part of the affordable newsstand editions that enjoyed a wide readership. Despite belonging to the realm of pulp or popular fiction, the novel stands as an intriguing cultural and bibliographic artifact of the pop culture and consumer reading habits of that era.
