Tajna Kina

Egon Ervin Kisch

The book is a travelogue-reportage work by the "crazy reporter" Egon Ervin Kisch, which presents impressive accounts of China in the turbulent period of the 20th century.

In Secret China, Kisch describes his journey and research in China, a country then in the throes of political and social change. Through a series of reports, stories and interviews, the author presents a picture of China as it was in the first half of the 20th century.

Kisch analyzes the living conditions of different strata of Chinese society, from poor peasants to wealthy merchants and political elites. It describes the struggle between nationalists, communists and foreign powers that had interests in China. It shows the exotic customs, beliefs and daily life of the Chinese people. Kisch examines how foreign powers, including Britain and Japan, shaped modern China.

As a journalist known for his investigative work, Kisch uses authentic sources, talks to ordinary people and witnesses events firsthand. His style is dynamic, detailed and engaging, which draws the reader into the core of the event.
