Kći trgovca svilom

Kći trgovca svilom

Dinah Jefferies

The novel "The Silk Merchant's Daughter" is an enchanting story of family, love, sisterly rivalry and dark secrets set in colonial Vietnam.

Like her older sister, Nicole is the child of a mixed marriage between a Vietnamese and a French woman. When she turns eighteen, her father gives her the long-closed silk shop, but at the same time leaves her older sister to manage the successful family business that sells silk, which Nicole considers a great injustice. Affected by this, she becomes painfully aware of injustice on other levels as well, especially in the relationship of the French to the Vietnamese. In the anxious atmosphere of war events and numerous disagreements with her sister and father, Nicole finds solace in her close friendship with Mark, a charming American, and then with Tran, a young guerrilla from the ranks of the Viet Minh. And when she finds herself in an intimate dilemma whether to side with the French or the rebels, her life will take an unexpected direction...
