At the center of Fichte's philosophizing is the "science of science", which he edited seven times over the years. The second exposition (1794), according to which this translation was made, remained the most influential.
Quite unexpectedly, the thirty-two-year-old Fichte was appointed professor at the University of Jena in the winter semester of 1794/95. Goethe, who advised the university, suggested it.
Fichte gives his first lecture on science without writing a complete, structured manuscript, but instead jots down the main ideas before each lecture. From this comes "The Basis of the Whole Science of Science" as Fichte's systematic main work and the central text of German idealism.
In the subject experience, Fichte demonstrated not only practical but also theoretical principles and thereby demonstrated the connection between the theoretical and practical mind. With this achievement, his work became the starting point of German idealism.
