The Three Hail Marys are an effective devotion for obtaining eternal life and every grace, according to the promise that the Blessed Virgin Mary made to Saint Matilda of Hackeborn: "I will certainly do what you ask of me, my daughter, but I ask you to pray the Three Hail Marys every day."

The Church has approved this devotion, and many saints have gladly prayed it: Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Saint Curé of Ars, Saint Gemma Galgani, and Saint John Bosco.
