Lovac u raži

Lovac u raži

J. D. Salinger

The Catcher in the Rye is a modern J.D. Salinger novel, whose focus is no longer on events but on character.

This is a modern novel that focuses on the character's inner world (his emotions and thoughts, consciousness and subconsciousness). Here the character is not a hero (he is an observer of the world around him and is turned to his inner world, he has no goals, he is introverted). Events are not connected by cause-and-effect relationships, but by associations and thoughts of the main character. The plot does not flow chronologically (it depends on the character's subjective experiences), and its flow is interrupted by associations and monologues. Here, space and time are broken down (they are no longer integral categories as in a traditional novel) and their perception is subjective (they are observed from the character's perspective). The narrator is often unreliable and tells the story in the first person, and a very common narrative technique in the modern novel is stream of consciousness (everything that comes to mind to the character is presented, seemingly unrelated). Jargon is present.
