U buri i oluji

U buri i oluji

Velimir Deželić

In the Storm and the Storm is a historical novel by Velimir Deželić that depicts the turbulent period immediately before the unification and creation of the Croatian state under King Tomislav.

The central character is a young Croatian knight Tihomil, who cherishes a sincere love for the modest girl Milena, while at the same time becoming the object of desire of Princess Gertrude. Gertrude, using love and political intrigue, tries to win Tihomil over, which further complicates his situation.

Through Tihomil's fate, Deželić revives ancient Croatian history, depicting political turmoil, the struggle for independence and the preservation of national identity. The novel abounds in vivid characters, tense plots and moral dilemmas, with which the author successfully combines historical facts with fiction.

Deželić's writing style is characterized by rich language and detailed description of events, which allows the reader to deeply immerse themselves in the depicted period. In the Storm and the Storm is not only a historical novel, but also a story about love, honor and the fight for justice, which still resonates with current messages about freedom and national pride today.
