Obitelj vojvode Hrvoja

Obitelj vojvode Hrvoja

Narcis Jenko

A historical novel by Fr. Eugen Matić, better known under the pseudonym Narcis Jenko, published in 1934. Although Jenko was a significant literary figure, he was systematically suppressed and neglected during the communist regime.

The novel is set in the 15th century, during the political turmoil that preceded the fall of the Bosnian Kingdom. The central figure is Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić, a powerful Bosnian nobleman, whose family and political ambitions are at the heart of the story. Jenko describes in detail life at the courts of Bosnian and Croatian nobles, their mutual struggles, and the intrigues of foreign powers interested in this area.

The author, as an extraordinary expert on Bosnian medieval history, realistically depicts historical events and socio-political circumstances of the time. The novel abounds in episodes filled with love intrigues and political intrigues, and the anti-war stance is expressed through characters who oppose the suffering of war.
