Vinodolski zakon 1288-1988: Faksimil/Diplomatičko izdanje/Kritički tekst/Tumačenje/Rječnik

The collection published on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the Vinodol Law is one of the most comprehensive editions of the key Croatian legal and cultural heritage. The collection contributes to an in-depth understanding of the Vinodol Law thro

The law was originally drafted in 1288 in the old Croatian Glagolitic language, and this edition brings its facsimile (copied) edition, diplomatic transcript, critical text, linguistic and legal analysis, commentaries, and a dictionary of older expressions, which enables insight into the original document and its meaning through the centuries.

The Vinodol Code is one of the oldest Slavic legal monuments, written almost a hundred years before Dušan's code and confirms the high legal culture of medieval Croatia. It was passed at the assembly of nine Vinodol municipalities under the auspices of the Duke of Krk. It regulates the customary law of the time - criminal, property, family and administrative - with an emphasis on the protection of weaker sections, especially women and the poor, which makes it advanced for its time.

The work is the result of the interdisciplinary collaboration of lawyers, philologists and historians, and due to its comprehensiveness and methodological precision, it is an indispensable source for the study of medieval law, language and society in the Croatian area.
