Ususret roditeljstvu
The author, one of the most famous gynecologists and perinatologists in the region, connects medical knowledge with the emotional and psychological aspects of parenting in a simple and accessible way.
The book is divided into several sections that follow the chronological path from conception to the birth of the child and the first days of parenthood. Kurjak describes:
Conception and pregnancy – explains the processes of fertilization, hormonal changes, the importance of prenatal care, nutrition, physical activity and regular check-ups.
Fetal development – with the help of ultrasound technology (of which Kurjak was a pioneer), the author describes in detail the psychophysical development of the child in the womb, pointing out the fact that the fetus already in the womb reacts to stimuli, develops feelings and behaviors.
Childbirth – explains the physiology of childbirth, preparation of the mother and father, pain and methods of its alleviation, and the options for choice (natural birth, cesarean section).
Psychology of parenting – emphasizes the importance of the emotional connection between parents and child, communication with the fetus, and early interaction after birth.
Special emphasis is placed on the correlation between modern medicine and humanity, i.e. that the pregnant woman is not a “patient”, but an active participant who has the right to information, respect and support.
