Naivci
This is a humorous and satirical story about life in a small Dalmatian town, told through the perspective of a naive but insightful narrator.
The story takes place in a fictional coastal town, and follows the lives of ordinary people – fishermen, merchants, clerks and their families – whose destinies are intertwined through a series of comic situations. Kušan effortlessly portrays human weaknesses, such as greed, hypocrisy and ambition, but also the warmth of community and the simplicity of everyday life. The title "Naives" alludes to the characters who, despite their flaws, often act out of pure intention or unconsciousness, which makes them likable.
Through dynamic dialogue and vivid descriptions, Kušan masterfully evokes the atmosphere of Dalmatia, with an emphasis on local speech and humor. The novel is appreciated for its ability to entertain, but also subtly criticize the social norms and bureaucracy of the time. It is intended for a wider audience, especially readers who enjoy light literature with deep social insights.
