Dragutin Tadijanović

The collection Gozba - izabrane pjesme 1920–1995. / Festmahl - ausgewählte Gedichte 1920–1995., a bilingual Croatian-German edition, presents an anthology of poetry by Dragutin Tadijanović, one of the most significant Croatian poets of the 20th century.

Published as a kind of cross-section of his work, the collection includes key poems from the period from his beginnings in the 1920s to his last works in the 1990s, including the title poem, Feast, from the collection Srebrne svirale (Silver Pipes) (1960). Tadijanović’s poetry, imbued with simplicity, emotional depth and native Slavonian motifs, celebrates life, love, nature and transience.

The collection features poems such as Feast, in which the poet meditates on life as a fleeting feast, interweaving images of moonlight, oak trees and books with themes of loss and nostalgia. Other poems, such as those from the collections Lirika (1931) or Poezija (1980), reflect his intimate relationship with nature, love and death, with characteristic free verse and rich poetic imagery. The bilingual edition, with translations into German, provides an international audience with access to Tadijanović’s universal expression, which has been translated into more than 20 languages.

This anthology not only highlights Tadijanović's contribution to Croatian literature, but also his ability to express complex emotions in simple language. It is ideal for poetry lovers who want to experience his work in its full glory.
