Sve što je čvrsto i postojano pretvara se u dim...
Katarina Peović's collection of texts revives Marxism in the era of capitalist crisis. The book analyzes key works by Marx and Engels, connecting them with contemporary thinkers such as Alain Badiou and Michael Lebowitz.
Peović exposes the myths that justify capitalism (from the Manifesto to the present), criticizes reformism and real socialism that did not abolish exploitation, and highlights the uneven development of the center and the periphery, including the Croatian reality. Structure: articles such as "Manifesto Today. Stunned Modernism", "Engels and Marx – The Position and 'Ideal Section' of Capitalism", "The Communist Hypothesis", "Uneven Development and Mentality" and "Instead of Debate. Capital".
The author emphasizes that historical materialism is current: capitalism is essentially unchanged, the exploitation of labor is its foundation, and the alternatives lie in social ownership and workers' control. The book calls for "democratic socialism of the 21st century" – production for needs, not profit – as a resistance to market dictates after the 2008 crisis.
