Od utorka do nedjelje

Carlo Fruttero, Franco Lucentini

Over the course of one week (from Tuesday to Sunday), the fates of ordinary people, crime, secrets and everyday life intertwine in Turin. A witty and melancholic picture of Italian society.

From Tuesday to Sunday (1972) is a masterpiece by the Italian author duo Carlo Fruttero and Franco Lucentini. It is one of the most successful Italian crime novels of the 20th century, a combination of tense intrigue, sharp social satire and a precise portrait of Turin in the 1970s.

The plot takes place over the course of one ordinary week. A wealthy industrialist is found murdered in his own home. The police investigation uncovers a web of secrets among the Turin elite: love affairs, corruption, hypocrisy and hidden conflicts. The main characters are diverse – from a police inspector and a journalist to members of high society and ordinary citizens. The central figure is the mysterious “Sunday woman”, who connects different destinies.

Fruttero and Lucentini write not only a crime novel, but also a profound portrait of Italian civil society during the period of the “lead years” – terrorism, corruption and social breakdowns. They ironize bureaucracy, the media and the Church, but with warmth they describe ordinary people caught in a web of lies. Turin is depicted as a gloomy, industrial city full of contrasts.

From Tuesday to Sunday is an important document of the era and a true piece of literature that transcends genre. A classic of Italian prose that is still read with pleasure today, thanks to the universal themes of secrets, hypocrisy and human weaknesses. A real treat for lovers of intelligent crime novels and social satire.
