The Mysterious Island (1874-1875) is one of the most famous novels of the French writer Jules Verne and part of his great adventure trilogy that is connected with the works of Captain Grant's Children and 20,000 Miles Under the Sea. The novel combines elements of adventure literature, science fiction and stories of human endurance, emphasizing faith in the power of knowledge, work and community.

The action begins during the American Civil War when a group of prisoners escapes in a balloon and after a storm ends up on a mysterious, seemingly deserted island in the Pacific Ocean. Among them are engineer Cyrus Smith, journalist Gideon Spilett, sailor Pencroff, young Harbert, Nab and dog Top. Thanks to their abilities, especially Smith's technical knowledge, they manage to organize life in the wilderness, making tools, weapons, shelter and various products necessary for survival.

However, the island hides many mysteries: unexplained events, unknown help that occasionally saves the colonists, and secrets related to its past. By gradually revealing these mysteries, the novel also acquires elements of science fiction and links with Verne's other works.

Mysterious Island celebrates human intelligence, cooperation and adaptability, but at the same time reflects on the relationship between man and nature. Through an exciting adventure, Verne shows how knowledge and creativity can enable survival and progress even in the most difficult circumstances.
