Memoari

Memoari

The extensive memoir of the former US Secretary of State. Kissinger analyzes in detail the key events of the Cold War, the secret negotiations, the opening towards China and the political doctrine of realpolitik in the USA.

Henry A. Kissinger's "Memoirs" (published in Croatian translation in 1981, and originally in the US as The White House Years) represent one of the most significant and influential political and diplomatic testimonies of the 20th century. As National Security Advisor and Secretary of State in the administration of President Richard Nixon, Kissinger documents firsthand the turbulent period of world history from 1969 to 1973, revealing how key decisions were made at the very top of American power. The book thoroughly analyzes the redefinition of American foreign policy in the midst of the Cold War, guided by the principles of Realpolitik. Kissinger describes in detail his secret diplomatic missions that led to the historic opening of the US towards China, negotiations on arms reduction with the Soviet Union (détente), complex exit strategies from the Vietnam War, as well as geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East and South Asia. In addition to the chronology of events, the author also offers lucid psychological portraits of the leading world leaders of the era, such as Nixon, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Leonid Brezhnev. Written in exceptionally analytical, persuasive, and stylistically refined language, these memoirs provide invaluable insight into the mechanisms of global power and secret diplomacy. The work remains essential reading for historians, political scientists, and anyone interested in contemporary history and international relations.
