Zagor LU #74: Sveto drvo
Logging and a planned military outpost threaten the Kickapoo’s sacred tree. After their chief is murdered, Zagor must uncover the truth and prevent a violent reprisal.
Sveto drvo begins with a dispute over a place of deep spiritual importance to the Kickapoo. Wertmann’s loggers and a planned military construction threaten their sacred tree. The chief’s death turns tension into a dangerous crisis, confronting Zagor with the threat of violence and the need to identify those responsible.
Marcello Toninelli combines an adventure Western with questions about respect for another culture and its relationship with the land. What one side regards as timber or a convenient building site represents shared memory and belief for the other. The disagreement is far from harmless: material interests and a willingness to suppress opposition give it destructive potential.
A murder mystery and the defence of a sacred place form the story’s connected strands. Zagor must distinguish individual guilt from collective accusation, since an indiscriminate reprisal could draw innocent people into the conflict. His role demands both courage and the ability to mediate.
Franco Donatelli illustrates the forest setting, confrontations and action with the familiar rhythm of the classic series. The adventure continues and concludes in the opening section of Priznanje. Readers need regular Ludens issues 74 and 75 for the complete story.
