The Bitter Lotus (1936) is a novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning American author Louis Bromfield, author of the famous bestseller The Rains Are Coming.

The story takes place on an exotic tropical island in the Indian Ocean. Tom Dantry, a disillusioned and weary American, comes here looking for peace.
