The book Slavonian Blood – Chronology of War by Dario Topić and Davor Špišić is a documentary work that chronologically presents events in Slavonia during the Homeland War, primarily from 1991 onwards. The authors follow the development of the war conflicts from the first political tensions, through armed attacks and occupation of certain areas, to defensive actions and the liberation of Croatian territory.
The work is based on real events, testimonies of participants, documents, newspaper articles and chronologically arranged facts. Special attention is paid to the cities and towns of Eastern Slavonia that suffered severe destruction, the suffering of civilians, the defense of settlements and the actions of Croatian defenders.
The authors describe the everyday life of people in wartime circumstances, shortages, shelling, refugees and the consequences of the war for the local population. In addition to military events, they also present the humanitarian dimension of the conflict, emphasizing the personal fates of individuals and families.
The book has documentary and historical value because it seeks to preserve the chronology of war events and provide an overview of the most important events on the Slavonian battlefield. The main message of the work is that wartime suffering and victims must not be forgotten and that knowledge of history is important for understanding the values of peace, freedom and independence of the Republic of Croatia.
