Kradljivac vrhova

Kradljivac vrhova

Radek Knapp

The thief of the peaks is a book with a dose of the finest philosophical-Lacrdian humor that can be read as a guide to solving small and large life puzzles.

The main protagonist of this novel is Ludwik Wiewurka, a young man who lives from day to day, quite alone, and is engaged in reading thermometers in Viennese apartments, and in the process experiences all kinds of encounters with people. A Pole by birth, he gets Austrian citizenship, but with that comes military obligation. At the recruitment, he manages to fake a mental disorder and is sent to a nursing home for civilian military service. After a while, he starts to feel comfortable and welcome in the home, and he likes one of the nurses. After it turns out that it makes sense for older people, he receives an offer from the director for a permanent position, which he does not accept because of another promise... This is the second translated novel by an Austrian writer whose critics place him at the top of recent Austrian humorous prose.
