Encyclopedia of HumorJoe Matošić is one of the most comprehensive domestic anthologies dedicated to humor. Subtitled "Collection of International Laughter in Aphorisms and Verses", the book brings together a large number of humorous texts, aphorisms, epigrams, quips, satirical writings and humorous verses from various national literatures and cultural environments. Matošić collected, translated and edited the material for years with the intention of creating a representative overview of the world's humorous heritage.

The book is not intended only as a collection of jokes and quips. It also includes essays on the nature of humor and texts by prominent writers and cultural workers who discuss the role of laughter, satire and wit in literature and society. Among the authors of the essay are Mato Hanžeković, Tin Ujević, Isidora Sekulić, Marko Ristić and others, which gives the work literary and historical value.

Of particular value is the supplement with biographical notes on the humorists represented in the book, which allows the reader to place individual texts in a broader cultural and historical context. The cover was created by the academic painter Vladimir Filakovac, while the illustrations and caricature elements are an important part of the visual identity of the publication.

The work was created in a period when anthologies and thematic collections played an important role in the popularization of world literature. Today, the Encyclopedia of Humor is interesting both as an overview of the international humor tradition and as a representative example of cultural and popular publications by Croatian publishing in the 1960s.

These are bright and colorful rockets of the spirit, in aphoristic prose and verse, perhaps strange, grotesque, paradoxical, caustic, comical, Lacrdiac, gallows, mischievous, ironic, Pelivanian, stinging, covert (and unconcealed), shrill, mocking, sarcastic, satirical, cheerful, cheerful, mischievous, caustic, malicious (and non-malicious), malignant (and good-natured) that cause laughter (and often tears), but at the end of the day - still witty, funny and fun!
