Kronike iz Narnije I: Čarobnjakov nećak

The story takes place in London in the summer of 1900. Two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, neighbors in a row of houses, become friends and explore attics. Digory lives with his Uncle Andrew (an eccentric "wizard") and Aunt Letty, because his mother is seriously ill, and his father is in India. Uncle Andrew experiments with magic: he has created rings - yellow (they take you to other worlds) and green (they bring you back).

Uncle Andrew tricks Polly into touching the yellow ring - she disappears. Digory, angry, takes the rings and follows her. They both end up in the "Forest Between Worlds" - a quiet, green place with many ponds (each pond leads to another world). They explore and enter the dead, icy city of Charn, where they find the sleeping Queen Jadis (a giant, powerful sorceress). Digory, out of curiosity and madness, rings the bell and wakes her. Jadis claims to have destroyed her world of Charn with a single word, "Destroy everything." She forces them to take her to their London.

In London, Jadis causes chaos: she destroys the streets, tries to take over. The children, with the help of their uncle, teleport her again - but take Jadis, Uncle Andrew, the horse Francis and the carriage with them. Everyone ends up in a new, empty world - the darkness before creation.

Here, Aslan, the great lion, appears, who creates Narnia with a song: the sun, stars, animals, talking animals, rivers, mountains. Aslan awakens life from the earth, and Jadis flees. Aslan sends Digory to get a golden apple from the garden in the west to plant a tree that will protect Narnia from evil. Digory and Polly travel on a winged horse (which becomes the flying horse Fledge), find the apple, but Digory is tempted to take her for his mother (Jadis persuades him to steal the apple for healing). He resists and returns the apple to Aslan.

Aslan orders the apple to be planted - from it grows a great tree of protection. One branch falls and becomes a lantern (which later the children will use to find their way to Narnia). Aslan creates the first king and queen of Narnia - Frances (the horse) and his wife Helena (Nellie the coachwoman). Jadis casts a spell on the apple – but Aslan turns it into a protective tree.

Digory gets an apple for his mother - she recovers. The children return to London through the wardrobe (which was made of wood from Narnia). Digory later becomes Professor Kirke (from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).
