The post-war novel, the so-called native prose is the first part of the "Kurlan trilogy" by the Croatian playwright, novelist and novelist.
A novel published in 1868, significant for Slovenian literature as it is considered the first Slovenian novel. With this work, Jurčič laid the foundations of the Slovenian prose tradition, introducing realism into the country's literature.
The novel takes place in the 19th century, and tells the story of two young friends, the fourteen-year-old Pole Stanislaw and his eight-year-old friend Nel from England, who were kidnapped in Sudan by the rebels of the Muslim priest Mahdi.
