Mimesis: Prikazivanje stvarnosti u zapadnoj književnosti

Mimesis: Prikazivanje stvarnosti u zapadnoj književnosti

Erich Auerbach

Erich Auerbach's book is today already a classic work on the theory and problems of European literature. Since it first appeared in 1946, it has seen numerous editions in many languages.

The problem that Auerbach considers in this book is one of the most important and at the same time the most sensitive problems of literature: the relationship between literature and reality. He approaches this problem in a very special way, trying to discover the writer's basic attitude towards the reality he describes based on the style and language of the literary work.

With this method, Auerbach illuminates not only the literary work, but also the entire epoch in which it was created. Therefore, Mimesis is not only one of the key works of modern literary scholarship, but also a work that helps us understand the currents of European literature from Homer to Virginia Woolf.
