Muzeji svijeta - Rijksmuseum – Amsterdam
The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch art and history. It is located in Amsterdam, on the Museumplein square, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Concertgebouw.
The museum was founded in 1800 in The Hague, and in 1885 it was moved to its current location. The main building, designed by the architect Pierre Cuypers, was opened in 1885. After a ten-year renovation, the main building was reopened in 2013. The museum holds 8,000 art and historical objects, including masterpieces such as paintings by Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer. It also has a small Asian collection on display in the Asian Pavilion. The Rijksmuseum is the most visited museum in the Netherlands, with 2.2 million visitors in 2016.
