Tirkizni orao

Tirkizni orao

Michal Ajvaz

In his stories, the author intertwines real city toponyms and supernatural phenomena with motifs from Meyrink's mystical novels about Prague and magical realism of the Borges type.

This collection of stories is characterized by the interweaving of real city scenes with supernatural phenomena, motifs of Meyrink's mystical novels about Prague and Borges' magical realism are present. The interestingness of Ajvaz's texts is found in the associative joining of completely different phenomena, in emphasizing the details in order to show that the forms of things that surround us are not as clearly defined as we think. Ajvaz mediates reality to us in multiple ways, he interweaves different levels of narration into each other, often breaks and opposes them.
