Desanka Maksimović

Desanka Maksimović started to deal with poetry in her young days, in student clubs, in high school, but she published her first poems only after the First World War.

Since then, she has published several collections of songs and poems in which she expressed her inner, love and patriotic feelings, as well as the world of her childhood (Poems, Garden of Childhood, Green Knight, Feast on the Meadow, New Poems, Liberation of Cveta Andrić, Poes and Hometown, Selected poems, River Helper, Ladybug, Lullaby of the Wind, Spring Meeting, Homeland, I'm Here, Smell of the Earth, Prisoner of Dreams, Speak Quietly, Miracle in the Field, Subjects of the Sun); in addition, she has published several books of short stories (Madness of the Heart, How They Live, Terrible Game) and two novels (Open Window and Rebellious Class).
