Henry Miller was truly the Messiah of erotic prose. He described the sexual adventures of people in a special way, and often mentions alcohol and atheism. Although it may be too vulgar for some or vulgar to the core, it did not leave any topic undeveloped. He was a member of the bohemian literary scene in Paris. With the outbreak of World War II, he goes to Greece, but later flees to the USA when the Third Reich attacks that country as well. He spent several years bohemianly in Paris and published his most famous books there, long banned in the USA: Cancer's Reverse, Capricorn's Reverse and Black Spring. In them, sexual fantasy, associated with an abundance of black and cynical humor, fits into the description of the chaotic and irresponsible behavior of people outside regular occupations. The conscious amorphousness of the composition, in which anecdotes are intertwined with natural-mystical meditations, is a reflection of Miller's nihilistic attitude towards civilization. In a series of subsequent books, Colossus of Maroussi (about encounters in Greece) and Big Sur and Oranges by Hieronymus Bosch (about the author's life in California) stand out. Later works include titles such as: "World of Sex", "Opus Pistorum", "Moloch", "Crazy Penis" (published only posthumously in 1991), "Air-Conditioned Nightmare" (1945), a fierce critique of the post-war US- and, "Peaceful Days in Clichy" (written in 1940 and published only in 1956), and the legendary trilogy "The Rosary Crucifixion". He brought his own philosophy into the novels. His heirs in the field of erotic prose are: Michel Houellebecq, Jerzy Kosinski, Philip Roth, Wei Hui, Charles Bukowski, Mario Vargas Llosa, Melissa Panarello, and even Harold Robbins. He is known for the expression do balčak, which is mentioned on page 226 of Capricorn's Reverse. It is the shortest description of a magnificent and perfect sexual relationship. His well-known contemporaries are Anais Nin, Anne Desclos and Erica Jong, who has been declared the "female Henry Miller". He wrote 40 novels, and spent the last 20 years of his life in California, sometimes publishing, but it was no longer his main preoccupation. He painted during the day, and wrote only occasionally.
