Die Trilogie „Tropic of Cancer“, „Black Spring“ und „Tropic of Capricorn“ wurden 1967–68 von Otokar Keršovani aus Rijeka veröffentlicht. In ihnen passt sexuelle Fantasie, verbunden mit einer Fülle von schwarzem und zynischem Humor, in die Beschreibung des chaotischen und verantwortungslosen Verhaltens von Menschen außerhalb regulärer Berufe. Die bewusste Amorphie der Komposition, in der sich Anekdoten mit naturmystischen Meditationen vermischen, spiegelt Millers nihilistische Haltung gegenüber der Zivilisation wider. Diese Trilogie war in den USA lange Zeit verboten.
