At the same time, a moving love novel (or - a novel about unrealized love), a satire on the post-Stalinist era and a study of human behavior in the extreme situation of a deadly disease, this great novel is in the best traditions of Russian classics, which in terms of humanity and vitality surpasses contemporary achievements of Western European and American narrative art.
