Svjetionik

Svjetionik

Joža Horvat

An interesting novel about the fateful contact between man and the sea. In the center of the plot is the boy Tonko, with an extremely vivid imagination, who in the sensitive period of puberty and family crisis is influenced by dreams of the sea.

In the dreams of the boy Tonk, the realistically built figure of the lighthouse keeper Mate is intertwined with the mythical figures of the ancient Greek Nereids, Poseidon, Amphitrite and Peristera. The immense secrecy and beauty of the sea become the boy's escape from reality, and through an unusual illness almost become his evil fate. Nevertheless, the boy manages to find his lighthouse, his balance, and at the same time the sea remains his dream as well as a permanent commitment in life. The novel contains numerous descriptions of the beauties and legends of our unique Adriatic, as well as a wealth of information about fishing and types of ships related to the development of Croatian shipping. Joža Horvat is a master at writing the incredible, but believable, and very deftly interweaves fantasy and reality.
