Kad padne mrak" je roman o susretima koji se događaju u ono gluho i tajanstveno doba između ponoći i svitanja.

U središtu pripovijesti su dvije sestre - Eri, ljepotica i manekenka koja spava kao da u snu traži zaborav, i studentica Mari koja tijekom romana zaklapa debelu knjigu što ju je samotnički čitala u anonimnom restoranu i susreće se s ljudima koji kao da žive u nekim drugim svjetovima: tu su jazz trombonist koji tvrdi da je pozna otprije, bahata direktorica “ljubavnog hotela” i njezina ekipa, mala kineska prostitutka koju je zvjerski pretukao japanski biznismen. Ali upravo među tim “ljudima noći” Mari pronalazi srodne duše jer ih najskrivenije tajne i duboke potrebe povezuju više no što ih dijele različite životne okolnosti, dok Eri, koja je u nekoj zagonetnoj vezi sa okrutnim zlostavljačem žena, traži spas u snu. "Kad padne mrak" vodi nas na neobično putovanje od dramatičnih događaja do metafizičkih razmišljanja, putovanje u kojem se isprepleću prostor i vrijeme, uspomene i spoznaje o ljudskoj duši, moć zapažanja i snaga ljubavi i empatije.
