August Šenoa

August Šenoa's historical novel, which was published in Vijenec in 1877, and was published as a book in 1878. The novel is subtitled "Historical Narrative XVI. century" so it can be seen as a historical monograph in the form of a novel.

Šenoa's historical novel Peasants' Revolt is a faithful reconstruction of the famous uprising of Croatian peasants in 1573 and all the events that preceded it. At the center of the writer's interest is the conflict between noblemen Franja Tahij and Uršula Heningova over the ownership of the estates Susjedgrad and Stubica, which caused one of the most tragic episodes in Croatian history, all in the shadow of the constant Turkish threat.
