Emile Zola (French: Émile Zola; Paris, April 2, 1840 – Paris, September 29, 1902) was a French novelist and the founder and representative of the naturalist movement.

He was the main figure in the political liberalization of France and the release of the falsely accused and convicted military officer Alfred Dreyfus, which he stated in the renowned newspaper title J'Accuse...! Zola was nominated for the first and second Nobel Prizes for literature in 1901 and 1902.
