Gospodarica začina

Gospodarica začina

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

The author of this novel, Chitra Benerjee Divakaruni, was born in India, but has lived in America for a long time. She has written several novels, most famously for "The Mistress of Spices."

Tilo is an immigrant from India. She runs a spice shop in the Californian city of Oakland. She is an expert in spices and their powers, has the ability to prophesy and see into other worlds, heals the sick and helps people who are unhappy. Her shop is mostly visited by Indian immigrants, and one day an American named Raven appears. They immediately develop a mutual affection that eventually turns into love. The novel exudes a special atmosphere, and is most similar to novels that belong to magical realism, for example, the novel "Like Water for Chocolate" by Laura Esquivel.
