Književnost u čistilištu

Književnost u čistilištu

Dubravko Jelčić

These are texts that the author intended to introduce that part of Croatian literature, that is, those writers who were silenced due to, as he himself says in the Foreword, gross ideological and national violence.

The context of the creation of Dubravko Jelčić's 35 literary-historical articles on Croatian writers and their work must be taken into account in order to understand their main purpose: the revision of the so-called white spots of Croatian literature, that is, the introduction of undesirable, excommunicated and forgotten writers whose literary work was subjected to gross ideological violence in socialist Yugoslavia. Academician Dubravko Jelčić (Požega, 1930) intended to undertake such a revision as early as the time of the Croatian Spring, but after its collapse it was impossible to publish works on this topic. However, Jelčić did not give up and continued to diligently collect data for the material on writers and works that he tried to return to the parent corpus. This is how notebooks with thousands of pages of handwritten notes were created, which were completely devastated by Serbian rebels in the author's hacienda in Novo Selo na Kupi during the four-year occupation of Croatian territories. The texts printed in this book were created based on memories of these notebooks.

The book represents a kind of anthology of poetic reflections on the beauty and meaning of our life. It is complex and harmoniously consistent with its presentation, polished like crystal.
