Within this framework, Blair sets out the central values that have guided progressive politics for more than a century, as well as the interdependence, intertwining and relevance of these values and their application in new conditions.
Blair's article also offers us a certain redefinition of the relationship between the welfare state and the citizens who should enjoy that welfare: it limits the powers of the state bureaucracy and opens up new spaces for civil society, whether in education or in health, in caring for the family or in the international community.
In short, whether one agrees with his views or not, there is no doubt that Tony Blair advocates and offers new perspectives in contemporary European politics.
