Anne Rice

Anne Rice has been proving herself as an excellent storyteller for three decades, and this time, after "vampire" themes, she presents us with an "angelic" one, in this metaphysical thriller about seraphim and assassins.

Toby O'Dare, a hired killer, is confronted by a mysterious stranger, a seraph, who offers him the chance to save human lives instead of destroying them, as he has done so far. Toby, who once dreamed of becoming a priest, but due to a combination of circumstances becomes the embodiment of danger and violence, decides to accept the opportunity. The seraph takes him to a 13th century English town, in the midst of an angry mob accusing Jews of ritual child murders. Given the task of saving a Jewish family, Toby will experience a journey of danger, loyalty, betrayal, hatred and love...

Anne Rice, who is best known to the general public as the author of novels about vampires and witches, re-examines her own relationship to the connection between theology and the paranormal in her new novel. The novel The Time of Angels focuses on the main character's inner struggle that includes questioning morality and the search for redemption and salvation. The novel was influenced by the author's personal views on Catholicism, and The Time of Angels is largely a strong biblical allegory. However, fans of her vampire chronicles will also be able to sink their teeth into this story, as it is a characteristic Rice's way of storytelling, imbued with a harrowing and disturbing atmosphere that creates an impression of eerie silence between the lines.
