Gospođa s kamelijama

Gospođa s kamelijama

Alexandre Dumas

The novel follows the tragic love story between the young nobleman Armand Duval and the Parisian courtesan Marguerite Gautier, known for always wearing camellias – white when she is healthy, red when she is sick.

Armand falls in love with Marguerite, and she, touched by his sincerity, gradually begins to love him back. Their relationship encounters numerous obstacles, including social prejudices and Marguerite's past. Armand's father begs Marguerite to end the relationship with his son in order to preserve the family's honor and his sister's future. Marguerite, out of love for Armand, agrees and secretly leaves him, sacrificing her own happiness.

Armand does not know the real reason for her departure and feels betrayed. In a desire for revenge, he publicly humiliates her. Later, he discovers the truth, but it is too late - Marguerite is seriously ill and dying of tuberculosis. The novel ends tragically, and Armand is devastated by everything that has happened.
