Hrvatski Bog Merkur
The novel "The Croatian God Mercury" deals with the contemporary political situation in Croatia, caused by the government crisis, the resignation of the former prime minister, and conflicts within the corrupt establishment.
This is the first part of the Planetopia Trilogy, which depicts the background relationships in politics, business and the underworld of the entire Balkan region, with the unparalleled insight of a man who has intimately met and professionally collaborated with all the significant figures of the post-war social scene in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia. While describing the political coup that is currently taking place, any similarity between the characters in the novel and real people is intentional. The story, as intricate as everyday political life in Croatia, in a situation of crisis for the ruling party, follows four actors deeply involved in politics: a prime minister who finds an ally in the figure of a major financier, but their relationship does not stop there; an unscrupulous young politician who, as a minister, enters the government coalition, and now, from a new position, represents the interests of multinational telecommunications corporations, and then becomes associated with the mafia; a legendary tabloid journalist who investigates the affair surrounding the construction of a skyscraper in the center of Zagreb and in the process exposes the monstrous white slave trade in which members of the government and a criminal organization participate; and an old UDBash who tries to shed light on the secret of the sudden dismissal of the former prime minister and uncovers a conspiracy of bankers, oligarchy and politicians who managed the fateful events.
